Do I need a strength Program to get results?

Think back to the moment you knew you needed to start exercising.
Maybe you asked yourself:
“Do I need to join a gym, or can I do this on my own?”
“Do I really need to follow a specific strength training program to get results?”
These are fair questions! With endless fitness advice online and countless videos you can follow, it
would be tempting to think you can just start moving more at home and see results.
But, there’s still that lingering thought: would I be more successful if I followed a structured program?
Before we answer all these questions, let’s clarify what we mean when we say “fitness program.”

What Are Fitness Programs?
If you look online you’ll find no shortage of fitness programs. Some are branded, like the trademarked
CrossFit, Orangetheory, and F45 programs.
Others are very general, like high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and other strength/conditioning
programs.

(While you can find great options in both categories, just remember that a program is not necessarily
better because it has fabulous marketing).

Regardless if it’s proprietary or generic, all programs at their core share one similar feature: structure.
They provide a plan and are designed to help someone accomplish a specific goal.

Some programs are designed to build strength, some to increase endurance, and some to add lean
muscle. Some blended programs are designed to create well-rounded fitness without focusing on one
element too much.

Each program approach will come with it’s own set of movements, equipment, principles and
protocols.

For example, body building, with it’s goal of adding lean muscle, is very different than HIIT’s focus on
burning fat and calories while increasing your cardiovascular fitness with only some muscle strength.
Both can be effective, but serve very different purposes and cater to very different goals.

So, Do you Need to Join a Gym or a Specific Strength Training Program?
Sure, you could increase your general movement, start a recreational sport, or do some basic workouts
at home. This is absolutely better than doing nothing!

But, if you want consistent, measurable progress, it is much better to follow a fitness program, guided
by professionals.

Let’s be honest, thinking back to that time you tried to get results on your own, how did it go? Did you
meet your goals?

We’re going to guess that it was pretty tough.

Most people struggle not because they lack effort, but because they lack knowledge and accountability.
If you tried a general workout or random program at home and got frustrated when you didn’t make
progress, that isn’t really your fault. At the end of the day you’re not the expert!

But we are.

At Right Fit, we know that if your goal is to run in the upcoming Boomerang Trail Run race, walking
for 20 minutes a day or using a power-lifting program won’t set you up for success.
Or, if your goal is weight loss, we know that you need to focus on a routine combination of strength
training, conditioning and healthy habits.

How We Can Set You Up for Lasting Success:
At Right Fit, we know how to guide and support you with a well-rounded approach.
We provide:

  • Professional expertise and guidance.
What exercises should you do? How many times a week? For how long and at what intensity?
It can be a lot to consider!
That’s where we help – we know all these answers. This is our job!
We don’t give false promises like some other programs (such as suggesting you will drop 30
pounds in 30 days). What we will promise you is consistent, progressive improvement in your
strength, mobility, and overall fitness, based on the professional guidance we offer you.
  • Individual assessments.
No two people are the same!
Every new member at Right Fit receives an individual assessment so that we can create a
    custom program just for you.
We set short and long term goals considering your individual needs like your fitness history,
pain, past injuries, mobility, lifestyle, and diet.
  • A well-rounded fitness approach.
At Right Fit, we don’t just recommend an individualized exercise program for you, but also
consider how nutrition plays in. As we wrote in our last blog, you can’t outwork a bad diet, so
we make sure your eating habits are considered in your program.
And, with our Registered Kinesiologists, we’re equipped to guide you through pain, previous
injuries, and mobility limitations safely and effectively.
  • Support and accountability.
At Right Fit, not only will you receive regular support from your trainers, but we also prioritize
our “Monthly Wellness Checks.” This is when we assess your short and long term goals, reflect
on your progress, and make adjustments to your program.
We also really believe in the power of support from our community. Our “Bright Spots” not
only celebrate our big and small “wins” but they also motivate others.
Progress is easier when you’re not doing it alone!

The truth is, it’s incredibly hard to achieve your fitness goals on your own without a specific program
and gym support.

But, it is our privilege to provide you with the guidance, expertise and supportive community that will
help you achieve your goals.
