In the last blog we talked about the benefits of starting a personal training program or small group training program (instead of just trying
to exercise at home on your own or randomly going to the gym with no plan). We learned how Right Fit’s professional guidance, accountability, and supportive community set you up for success.
The next question you may now be wondering: what kind of programming is best?
One-on-one personal training or small group training?
We won’t leave you hanging. The answer is: it actually depends!
To make this decision there are many factors to consider, including your history and your
goals. What makes sense for one person may not work for another. You should choose the
style that makes you feel most comfortable and set up for success. For example, some
people love the energy of a group, and others prefer the privacy and attention available with
personal training.
Both are great options! To decide what is best for you, let’s take a closer look at each option.
Personal Training
There’s just no substitute for a personalized plan and the one-on-one undivided attention of a
coach who knows you well.
In a personal training (PT) program, a coach sets goals with you and then creates the perfect
plan. It’s tailored to you and you alone considering your diet, current daily fitness, exercise
history, injuries and pain. If you come to us with a very specific goal, such as “I want to train
for a half marathon,” then personal training may be a great option for you.

One of our great coaches can take your goals and create an ideal plan for you. In your
personalized sessions, they will work with you to make sure you’re moving properly and at the
right intensity. A coach will provide accountability and encouragement, and you’ll get
immediate answers to any questions during your session. They will also give you educated
feedback on how you’re progressing towards your goal.
With PT, you also have the opportunity to forge a long-term relationship with a pro who knows
you. As a coach gets to know and understand you more and more, the better your
personalized training plans become, which builds a lot of momentum.
All that individualized attention and focus does come with a higher price tag, but when you’re
getting amazing results, have significant injuries and pain, or very specific goals, you’ll think of this service as a great investment.
Small Group Training
Despite just sharing all the benefits of personal training, it isn’t for everyone, and small group
programming at Right Fit has a host of advantages too! This is why Right Fit’s small group training is
such a big part of our gym.

Some of the benefits of small group training at Right Fit include:
- Reaping the benefits of community.
◦ You can feed off the energy in a class (and by the way, it’s amazing!). Doing fitness
in community is incredibly empowering.
◦ You are in a class with the same people most of the time, which creates a
supportive group whom you will come to love. This also sets a standard of
accountability as your gym friends check in on you and encourage you. - Receiving an Individual Assessment, regardless of programming.
◦ When you begin with us you receive an Individual Consultation and Assessment where we get to
know you and your goals, injuries, pain and barriers to movement.
◦ Tracking, progressive overload, and individual modifications are all written on your
custom tracking sheet or sent to you via our app. This allows you to physically see
the progress you’re making week to week.
◦ We provide Monthly Wellness Checks so that you can update us on your goals,
injuries, pain and send specific feedback as to how you’re doing (what’s working for
you and what’s not).
◦ In class we also have some time to give you individual attention alongside the other
participants. We strive to support you!
◦ You have the same level of accountability as one-on-one training. If you don’t show
up to class, we check in! - Flexibility, with over 30+ classes a week to choose from.
◦ You can book your sessions ahead of time.
◦ You can modify your schedule to account for your appointments, vacations and
other plans as they come. - Programming specially designed for functional results.
◦ With a focus on balance, agility, cardio and strength training, our goal is for you to
feel stronger. We want everything we do in the gym to translate into real life –
simple movements that make you feel strong and capable day to day.
◦ Although small group training classes are designed generically, it doesn’t mean
there isn’t individual modifications available for everyone within the class. In fact,
we have intentionally built our programming to include individual training within a
group setting, including frameworks of rehabilitation.
◦ Our programming never feels too repetitive as it rotates every 6 weeks. - Affordability.
◦ Small group memberships are priced below personal training, which makes them a
better fit for a lot of people long term.
You can absolutely accomplish your goals in a group setting. The way we have setup Small Group Training at Right Fit is the feel of personal training with a community.
So, What’s Best for You?
At Right Fit, we always start you off with an Individual Assessment. This is the opportunity to
chat about the ideal plan for you, whether that is personal training or small group training.
Generally, if you have pre/post surgery considerations, need rehabilitation for acute injuries
and pain, or have very specific training goals, personal training is your best bet.
However, the majority (80%) of our clients choose small group training for the community, for
it’s foundation of functionality, and for the individual attention you get within the group, (which
isn’t typically found in other gym’s group training programs!).
Depending on your health and fitness history, and goals, we will lay out the perfect plan for
you. And, our Monthly Check Ins give us the chance to assess if your plan is still working for
you.
Whether you prefer to train in a group or one-on-one with a coach, we’ll help you get the
results you want!
